ABA Structure "Faces Of Epiphany"

Top level Music reviews

Review by PKS
ABA Structure is out with his second album, this time on Japanese Vision Productions...

San Francisco based Kenji Williams, is out with his second ABA Structure album. He has been a member of Medicine Drum for a long time, but has started making more and more music by his own lately. His last album (Epic) was released on Fungus Productions last year. A very experimental, tribal album where the famous world music singer Irinia Mikhailova sang a lot. Now he is back with a new album he releases on Japanese Vision Productions, probably because he has done some incredible live performances at the Vision Quest Gathering… The cover art this time is really great. A painting done by Alex Grey, called Original Face.

First out is a beautiful track you can also find as an introduction on the Vision Quest Gathering 2002 DVD, released last year. Very tribal and floating, with easy going, pretty chilled rhythms. Nice start one the album. Track 2 is more of a progressive house track, but better than the usual prog house you get out there. Kenji Williams is really good at violin, and combines it with electronic music, also in his live performances. Here we get some really beautiful violin in between the housy beats. Pretty relaxing music. Track 3 is even more progressive. It is also called a Bedrock Mix. Bedrock is a progressive house label… It has a beautiful female voice, and can probably sound too cheesy for the usual psytrancer, but I think it’s deeper and more trancey than a usual prog house track.

Track 4 is more clean house music, with a bit cheesy female voice. This one doesn’t fit my taste. Track 5 is more psychedelic, with the beautiful violin. A nice, relaxing down tempo track. Track 6 goes over to more trancey vibes. Mystic sounds and groovy beats. Track 7 is more house again. Pretty funky house, but it doesn’t fit my taste. It reminds me a bit of some Sven Väth tracks. Track 8 goes the same style. The last track on this album is a really beautiful track with a lot of violin and some stumpy housy beats. Pretty tribal too.

This album is much more house inspired than I expected. You get some nice tracks here, and if you are open for house music, this sure is better than most house releases. For those of you who hates house music, stay away from this. Personally I think it’s pretty good.
