German Mental Arts Records releases a compilation full of dark progressive trance...

Mental Arts is a label based in Germany, releasing mostly progressive trance. Now they are out with a new compilation called Uplifter Sessions, Mental Arts Compilation Vol. 1. All the tracks are exclusive unreleased tracks compiled by dj Joyrider. This compilation is luckily not mixed, but compiled as a listening through journey from beginning to end.

Uplifter Session Mental Arts Comp. 1. Mental Arts Records 2003 (MA 005)

1. S.A.O.M – Each Of Us
2. Dj El Rey – Bifokal
3. Archaic Labor – Frequence Of Illusion
4. Archaic Labor – Dream About A Dream
5. Gumbo Yaya – Blue Pearl
6. Archaic Labor – Moonlight Highway
7. S.A.O.M. – Space Emulation
8. S.A.O.M. – Katalysator

Most of these artists are pretty unknown German upcoming artists. First out is S.A.O.M. (Sebastian Scmidt). It starts with some female vocals. Then the progressive rhythms starts building up, rolling us through trancey sound scapes and beautiful humming vocals. Track 2 by dj El Rey (Ralf Link) is more hard pumping and dark with some tribal drums above. Deep and groovy. Then Archaic Labor (Cuney Guletinmaz) who releases three tracks on this compilation, gives us a really stumpy track. After a few minutes, we get a little break with something that sounds like some Indian sitar. The progressive rhythms continue stumping and we get some tiny psychedelic sounds in there too. Track 4 is also by Archaic Labor. Another hard, stumpy track, with some beautiful sounds going in and out. After a few minutes, it becomes a bit melodic too. Very pleasant for the dance floor.

Track 5 is by a new project by DJ Puls (Peter Dickas), a pretty famous psytrance dj these days. Here he calls himself Gumbo Yaya. A driving hard pumping progressive track, with some voice samples saying something about a blue pearl. Archaic Labor is back in track 6, with heavy rolling bass lines. You also get some scary dark floating parts in between. My favourite track on this compilation. S.A.O.M. who started this voyage, finishes this compilation with two tracks. The first one is pretty floating, but dark, with a lot of cool drums around the rolling bass rhythm. The last track on this compilation is pretty heavy, with massive bass rhythms and dark sounds swirling above.

This compilation is for all of you who like dark progressive trance. It is also nice to listen to it all the way through, since it`s sort of building up. If you are interested in more information about this label, be sure to check out:
