Another chapter in the Destination Goa series from Why Not Records...

There are many Goa series out there, like Tantrance, Goa Head, Puls etc, but I have always thought that the Destination Goa series has showed the best picture of how psytrance is evolving. I have collected Destination Goa cds from the early beginning in 1996 and up to now. The 11th chapter is finally out, showing what psytrance has sounded like the past year.

First out is a piece of Talamascas latest album Musica Divinorum, released on Spiral Trax in the end of 2001. Not the best track from the album, and not as melodic as Talamasca often can be, but not a bad track. Track 2 is by Bamboo Forest who was supposed to come out with an album last summer, but Flying Rhino who was releasing it went bankrupt, so the album still hasn`t come out. They are now signed over to Spiral Trax Records in Sweden. A very tribal track, but not much melodies. Very trancey and good for the dance floor. Then we get the famous Tron track by Saiko-Pod. A real masterpiece you can find on various compilations and as a finish on their Saiko-Pod album Phutures and Options released on Spiral Trax and Solstice Music last summer. Astral Projection made all their fans happy this autumn by releasing a new album on Phonokol (Amen). Here you can listen to how they sound today, and they are still the same good old melodic full on masters.
In the Destination Goa series you will always find a few tracks by not so famous artists. Track 5 is one of them, called Phasio. If you miss the good old melodic goa style, this sure is something for you. Back to 96! Some really stupid voice samples on this one, but so what when you get all this crazy melodic madness for a change! The next track is also by some unfamous guys called Machine Head, still holding on to the old melodic goa style! Then we get a new track from one of the guys in Logic Bomb, with his solo project Tranan. If you like Logic Bomb, you will like this. Same style, pushing you far into trance on the floor, with relaxing morning melodies together with rolling rhythms. The last track on cd 1 is the best track from Dag Wallins Human Blue album (Electric Roundabout) released last summer. A beautiful progressive morning track which should change all peoples bad opinion about progressive trance.
Cd 2 starts off with a new track by Aeternum (Marcello Bonifacii)! Aeternum is one of the guys from the group Encens. Encens have released several really good tracks on Koyote Records. This track is a real stumper, with a dark melody. The voice sample where someone says something about mescalin is too much used in my opinion, but away from that, this is a pretty good track. Track 2 is by someone called Chromosome. A deep, dark and stumpy track. Track 3 is a famous Atmos track. Here we get a Vibrasphere remix. Very deep and trancey remix. If you are into progressive trance, this sure is something for you. Track 4 is another not so famous artist called Android. Nothing special with is track. Stumpy with a little melody. Then we get a new track by Miranda from Sweden. She is one of the few girls in the world who makes psytrance. This track sounds pretty boring in my ears. Pumping monotonous rhythms with a little sounds in the back ground. She did it better before! Another artist from Sweden, Noma, then give us some progressive hard pumping rhythms with not much more. I get tired of this style pretty fast. Track 7 is by Atmos and another guy (Marcus Maichel). Together they call themselves Amtrax. A floating progressive trance track. Pleasant morning trance. The compilation finishes with another new name in the trance scene, called A.I.R. (Artificial Intelegent Reaction). Some sort of progressive trance. A little cheesy in my ears.
Destination Goa delivers another pretty good compilation. A good overview of the psytrance scene, how it has sounded the past year.
