Un:Balanced

Top level Music reviews

Brand New Entertainment is one of the biggest psytrance labels in Israel. Now they are out with a new compilation for the summer 2005.

Un:Balanced (BNE) 2005 (YOYO067)

1. Time Lock Feat. June Rashava – Un:Balanced
2. Atomic Pulse & Star X – Planet X
3. Oforia – Northern Lights (GMS Rmx)
4. Infected Mushroom – Shakawkaw (Vibe Tribe Rmx)
5. Silent Hill – Dance FX
6. Violet Vision – Cellophane (Sub6 & Domestic Rmx)
7. Echotek – Time Stops
8. Quantum – Awake
9. Fatali – Lucid Dreams
10. Basic – Master System

This compilation starts with a new track by Time Lock (Felix Nagorsky), which has the compilation title. This has a very typical Israeli full on sound with a little bit of commercial influences. It is supposed to be a hit in Israel... We also get some female vocals done by a girl named June Rashava, which should please a big radio audience in Israel. Way too fluffy for my taste though. Track 2 is a collaboration between Atomic Pulse (Tamir Ozana) and Star-X (Eran Hennenberg). Both have previously released a lot of tracks. This track goes a little bit deeper. Drifting, massive full on with an atmospheric vibe floating above now and then. Also a little bit of crazy melody in there. This is one of my favourite tracks on this compilation, but it sounds like full on we have heard a million times before. Track 3 is the famous Northern Lights track by Oforia (Ofer Dikovsky), but here we get a remix done by the psytrance superstars GMS (Riktam & Bansi). They add their typical GMS take off sound to the track. If you have heard GMS before, you will probably not get any surprises here. Track 4 is originally a pretty good track by Infected Mushroom (Erez Aizen & Amit Duvdevani), but here we get a remix by a quite fresh Israeli duo called Vibe Tribe (Stas Marniansky & Elmar Ivatarov) who released a fluffy club psytrance album (Melodrama) on Utopia Records in 2004. Here they give us a quite clubby version of the track too. Easy digestible, melodic full on. This version is previously released as a bonus track on the LP version of Converting Vegetarians. Then we get a new track by a fresh, new duo called Silent Hill (Lior Kopeikin & Eli Pinto). This is a pretty stumping track with some jumpy sounds and nice, floating, atmospheric breaks. A lot of variation in this track, but it sounds a bit too fluffy at times, with some ugly, twisted vocal samples.

Track 6 is originally made by the super duo called Violet Vision (Jonathan Dagan & Shay Raviv), but here we get a remix by Sub6 (Ohad & Golan Aharoni) and Domestic (Ido Ophir). Very typical Sub6 drift, with massive bassline and vocals. Track 7 is by Echotek (Micha Yossef) who releases a lot these days. This one starts nice and relaxing, before a massive rolling bassline starts working. Darker than most other tracks on this compilation, but still quite clubby. Then we get a new track by Quantum (Gidi Snapir) who released an album (Outrage) on BNE last year. The track he gives us here is the best one on this compilation and also my favourite. Trippy, floating vibe, with a deep, rolling bassline. For sure a summer hit on full on dance floors this summer. Track 9 is by Fatali (Eitan Carmi) who is doing well with his second album (Faith) released on BNE earlier this year. He usually keeps a quite fluffy morning vibe in his tracks, and that’s what he does here too. Melodic, groovy morning trance that will hit a big crowd this summer. The last track on this compilation is a fresh new project called Basic. Here we get a melodic almost dramatic track. This one has a very clubby sound, but doesn’t become too cheesy. Quite trippy, floating vibes and interesting sounds. More interesting tracks might come out from Basic in the future...

This compilation has some of the biggest trance stars in Israel, but also some new, fresh artists. Typical Israeli full on all the way through, going a bit more main stream direction than I would prefer, but I think a couple of these tracks are pretty nice.
