Dimitri D.K.N. presents The Usual Suspects in the mix

Top level Music reviews

One of the leading psytrance dj’s the last couple of years is Dimitri Nakov. He made a mixed CD for Solstice Music last year. But sadly it was only released in Japan, so I haven’t got my hands on it until now. As usual you get a great cover art with these Solstice releases…

Dimitri D.K.N. presents The Usual Suspects in the mix (Solstice Music) 2002 (SOLC-014)

1. Altom – Hologram
2. Synthetic – Africa
3. Alien Project – One Good
4. Soundaholix – Dance With Vibes
5. Astrix – Visions
6. N.B.K. – The Sleeper
7. Talamasca – Come On!
8. D.S.P. – Have A Good Time (All The Time)
9. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Woebup
10. Alternate Vision – Keberos
11. Silicon Sound vs dj Pulsate – Onida
12. Tranan – Preacher Boy

First out is a track by Altom. This track was also released on their debut album Hologram released on Neurobiotics Records last year. This is a really groovy track, but there are not much melodies in there. Track 2 is a track I played a lot last year. Africa by Synthetic (Dado)! This one was released on his Synthetic album 100% Pure on Solstice Music. A great album by the way. A full on varied track with nice tribal influences. Track 3 was another hit on the psytrance floors last year. The One Good track by Alien Project (Ari Linker), released on Alien Projects third album (Aztechno Dream) on TIP.World. A groovy floor stumper… Track 4 is another track that was played pretty much last year by Soundaholix. Soundaholix is a collaboration between Celli Firmi (Earthling) and the GMS guys. If you like the GMS style, you will like this. Then we get a track by Astrix (Avi Schmailov) who suddenly became a global star in the trance scene last year after releasing his album Eye To Eye on Hommega Productions. The track we get here is not on the album. Luckily no cheese either. A groovy rolling track with some nice psychedelic sounds drifting inside. Track 6 is an interesting collaboration between Christof Drouillet (Absolum) and Ari Linker (Alien Project). This one has the same groove, but isn’t as varied as I would like it. Track 7 is a cool track by Talamasca (dj Lestat), but remixed by GMS. That makes it less interesting in my opinion.

Track 8 is a really interesting collaboration between Simon Posford and Dimitri himself. Together they call themselves D.S.P. This track was originally released on the Unusual Suspects compilation on Twisted Records last year. A really cool track that reminds me a lot of a Hallucinogen track. Track 9 is by the dream team, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (GBU), which is Dimitri himself, Serge Souque (The Antidote) and Dado (Synthetic) in a collaboration. A totally groovy, drifting track. Track 10 is by Alternate Vision (Johan Krafft), which is one half of Logic Bomb. This track was also released on the Time & Space 2 compilation on the Mexican label Maia Records last year. If you like Logic Bomb, you will love this. Melodic full on in a unique way. Track11 is by Silicon Sound (Johannes Reigner) who surprised many people with his fantastic debut album Pure Analog on Moonspirits Records this year. Here he has collaborated with dj Pulsate. Definitely one of the tracks that really got my eyes up for Silicon Sound. Some of the best melodic full on psytrance out there. Dimitri finishes this mix with the other half of Logic Bomb, which is Jonas Petterson, under the name Tranan. A drifting track for those of you who likes the Logic Bomb style.

This is a really strong mix full of well known tracks from last year. I’m not a big fan of mixed CD’s, but if I should buy a mixed full on CD the last year, I would for sure go for this, and I did… But you have to get some contacts in Japan to get your hands on it…
