Psychedelic Dreams Vol. 2

Top level Music reviews

Transient Records is already out with the second chapter in their Psychedelic Dreams series. Most of the tracks on this compilation is about four and five years old, but they probably didn`t realise until now that these tracks should be released on a compilation. You can buy this compilation pretty cheap in the record shops.

Psychedelic Dreams 2 (Transient Records) 2003 (TRANR646CD)

1. Mumbo Jumbo & dj Kuma – Kinda Weirda
2. Process & Slide – The real Creeper
3. Laughing Buddha – Astral Traveller
4. Cosmosis – In Yer Face Part 2
5. Mumbo Jumbo – Abdabz
6. Cosmosis & Shakta – Visitors
7. Bamboo Forest – CorrexMix
8. Manmademan – Palladium

First out is a track I have heard many times before, but in another version. It was released on the Cosmosis album Intergalactic (Transient Records 2000), but here you get a remix Bilbo Bagginz (Cosmosis) has done together with Mitch Davies. This version has the good Cosmosis drift, but it is much more minimal. A typical Mumbo Jumbo track I should say. Track two is made by two really great artists, Process (Sean Williams) and Slide (Pete Martin). This has the weird sounds we are used to get from Process, and a trancey drift in a typical Slide way. Nice one if you like it weird… Track 3 is surprisingly by Laughing Buddha (Jeroen Van Kampen). I haven`t heard much from him since the days he was a member of Cosmosis! Here he gives us a pretty old school goa sounding track. Very melodic all the way through. A bit out dated sound, but nice to hear some old school melodic goa trance again. Cosmosis hits us with some old school vibes too, in track 4. This track is really great! Totally full on melodic trance. You get some totally crazy melodies and even some rock guitar. I miss this kind of trance at parties these days. Nice one!

Track 5 is a Mumbo Jumbo track (collaboration between Cosmosis and Mitch Davies). They released a Mumbo Jumbo album on Turbo Trance Records last year (Speaking In Tongues), but the track we get here is not on the album. Cosmosis style, but much more minimal. Then we get a really interesting track six. This is a collaboration between Cosmosis and Shakta (Seb Taylor). It has those break beat inspired rhythms and sounds from Shakta and the typical Cosmosis groove. Cool track. Next out is Bamboo Forest who is releasing their first album these days. I think they sound much better now than in 1999 when this track was made. Very hard going, drifting track with some really noisy sounds. The last track on this compilation is the newest one (from 2001). It is made by Manmademan (Sonya Bailey and Paul Baguley). This track is too minimal and boring in my ears. This is sort of the style Tristan likes to play. Drifting rhythms, a few noisy sounds and not much more.

This compilation has a few really good tracks, but if you are looking for some new and fresh psytrance, you should stay away from this. But in my ears, it sounds good with some of this old school melodic goa trance once in a while.
